A brighter beginning for all NSW children

A life-changing package for NSW children and families has been announced today with a $376.5 million investment over four years in child development and family support as part of the 2022-23 NSW Budget.

Premier of NSW Dominic Perrottet said the Brighter Beginnings package will provide all children with a full suite of developmental checks before they start school and make the baby blue book digital.

Paw-fect puppies change lives for the better

Four puppies have led the way through specialised training to graduate as Seeing Eye Dogs at a paw-fect ceremony in Parliament House today.

Minister for Disability Services Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the dogs will make a big difference to the lives of their new handlers.

“Queenie, Cleo, Yaffa and Nova have been matched with their handlers to give them more independence with everyday living,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.

Support boost for flood-affected community and volunteer organisations

Community and volunteer groups will be eligible for new grants to help re-establish services impacted by the recent floods in the Northern Rivers under a $13.3 million assistance package announced by the NSW Government.

Minister for Families and Communities Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the funding will be rolled out from next month and will be spent over two years to boost community-led recovery efforts.

“We know these community and neighbourhood centres are at the heart of our towns and villages delivering much needed services on the ground,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.

Inaugural taskforce to boost volunteering

Volunteers across the state will have increased support and recognition following the establishment of the first Ministerial Volunteer Taskforce in NSW.

Minister for Families and Communities and Minister for Disability Services Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the inaugural Ministerial Volunteer Taskforce will identify and prioritise needs, challenges and opportunities faced by volunteers in NSW.

“As we continue to celebrate National Volunteer Week, it is vital that our dedicated and heroic volunteers are well-supported,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.
