More affordable housing for the Illawarra

More than 50 new affordable housing units for the Illawarra are a big step closer to being constructed with the concrete pour taking place in Dapto this week.

Dapto’s housing project is funded through the NSW Government’s $1.1 billion Social and Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF).

In a partnership with Anglicare, the new development provides both affordable housing and wraparound supports for residents.

Firm action to fight homelessness

The NSW Government’s record $1.2 billion to tackle homelessness and provide safe accommodation to those in need by supporting proven initiatives ensures a continued commitment to break the cycle of disadvantage.

Minister for Families and Communities and Minister for Disability Services Natasha Maclaren-Jones said assertive outreach, early intervention and stable accommodation are key to combatting homelessness.

Grants drive community-led flood recovery

Non-government organisations (NGOs) in flood-affected communities will receive $4.5 million in grants this month as part of the $13.3 million NGO Flood Support Program.

Acting Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said this funding supports groups that have been the backbone of the Northern Rivers community.

“When the floods hit and people lost their homes these organisations are the first places people turned to for support; providing food, clothing and places to live,” Mr Toole said.

Protecting children in out-of-home care

Checks on adults working with children and young people in residential care are being strengthened through a significant investment from the NSW Government.

The creation of a Residential Care Workers Register is in response to a recommendation by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Minister for Families and Communities Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the Register is an additional protection to help ensure  unsuitable residential care workers can’t move between service providers undetected.
