New youth voices advise on future of children and young people

A group of impressive and inspiring young people from across the state have been appointed to the 2022-23 Youth Advisory Council that will advise the NSW Government on matters impacting children and young people. 

Minister for Families and Communities and Minister for Disability Services Natasha Maclaren-Jones said 12 newly appointment members of the Youth Advisory Council will work together to provide advice to NSW Government during their one-year term.

$20 million to help house the homeless

More people sleeping rough will be helped into stable accommodation as the NSW Government increases its investment in tackling homeless.

The Supported Transition and Engagement Program (STEP) will be extended following a $20 million investment by the NSW Government.

Minister for Families and Communities Natasha Maclaren-Jones said STEP was vital in supporting people experiencing homelessness find stable accommodation.

A giant helping hand gives youth a step up

Young people in out-of-home care (OOHC) will benefit from extended funding for the successful Ladder Step Up Sydney Program, which sees education, employment and mentoring given to young people.

Minister for Families and Communities and Minister for Disability Services Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the program run by community organisation Ladder and supported by AFL players from the GWS Giants had seen huge success since it began in 2017.

Home and hope for vulnerable women

A partnership between the NSW Government and community housing provider Women’s Housing Company is set to drive a new strategy to address the rising issue of female homelessness in Sydney.

The completion of a new complex with nine units at Peakhurst by the NSW Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) is one of twelve to be delivered by 2025 across Greater Sydney and marks another step towards helping women who are most in need.
