NSW CELEBRATES CARERS WEEK

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones today joined with Minister for Ageing and Disability Services in celebrating National Carers Week which runs from Sunday 11 October to Saturday 17 October

Carers in NSW can enjoy some time out in October, with a number of local events being held to mark National Carers Week

Mr Ajaka said that National Carers Week is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the important contribution that carers make in our communities.

COST BURDEN EASED FOR PATIENTS WITH CANCER

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones has welcomed the NSW Government’s delivery of another election promise to ease the financial burden on patients living with cancer and other chronic conditions.

The NSW Government will cover the co-payments for public hospital patients receiving Section 100 (s100) Highly Specialised Drugs and Section 100 injectable and infusible chemotherapy medicines.

“This election commitment will relieve the stress on those living with complex illnesses having to fork out for essential but expensive medication”

FUNDING BOOST TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF SENIORS

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones today said the NSW Government is delivering on another election commitment to make life easier for older people across NSW, providing a $4 million funding boost to improve accessibility in local communities.

The Liveable Communities Grants is a four year program, which encourages local councils, non-government organisations and small businesses to improve accessibility and mobility for seniors.

‘WHO CARES?’ APP FOR YOUNG CARERS

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones welcomed the launch by the Minister for Disability Services John Ajaka of the ‘Who Cares?’ app for young carers.

‘Who Cares?’ is designed to help young people from 12 years old who care for loved ones with a disability or illness.

Mr Ajaka said that more than 100,000 of the 850,000 carers in NSW are under the age of 25.

“These young people take on a level of responsibility that we would normally associate with an adult,” Mr Ajaka said.
