NEW LAWS TO STOP CRACK DOWN ON CRIMINALS AND SAFEGUARD SOCIAL HOUSING TENANTS

Criminal activity in social housing communities will no longer be tolerated with new laws cracking down on anti-social and illegal behaviour amongst tenants passing NSW Parliament this week.

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the Residential Tenancies and Housing Legislation Amendment (Public Housing - Antisocial Behaviour) Act will make it easier for social housing landlords to evict people who have committed serious crimes such as drug dealing which can make their neighbours’ lives a misery.

Homebuyers across NSW will have greater protection when purchasing a property, with strengthened laws set to clamp down on real estate underquoting passing NSW Parliament this week.

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones said these reforms deliver on the NSW Government’s 2015 election commitment to crackdown on underquoting in real estate transactions.

“The NSW Government committed to overhauling the current laws to crackdown on the practice of real estate underquoting – and we have delivered,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.

The NSW Government will transform NSW Trustee and Guardian (NSWTG) to secure its future and ensure vulnerable people get access to better service, Attorney General Gabrielle Upton and Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones announced today.

Ms Upton said the NSW Government will implement most of the recommendations of the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal’s (IPART) report as part of a comprehensive transformation of NSWTG.
