FIXING COUNTRY ROADS ROUND 2 NOW OPEN – FURTHER $50 MILLION FOR COUNCILS

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones today announced the second round of Fixing Country Roads is open and a further $50 million is available to councils to help repair council owned roads and bridges.

“Funding for Round Two is part of a $500 million commitment from Rebuilding NSW to fix council-owned infrastructure that creates bottlenecks and hinders efficient freight transport,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.

REDUCED PET REGISTRATION FEES DELIVERED

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones today welcomed the NSW Government’s announcement that the election commitment to encourage the re-homing of cats and dogs from council pounds and shelters has been delivered.

From this week, any de-sexed cat or dog purchased from a council pound or an eligible shelter will be entitled to a 50 per cent discount on the lifetime registration fee.

Currently close to 30,000 cats and dogs that arrive at pounds in NSW are euthanized every year.

Mrs Maclaren-Jones said the Government was determined to promote adoption.

NSW SCHOOL STUDENTS TO TAP ONTO OPAL NEXT YEAR

School students across NSW will be provided with an Opal card at the start of the 2016 school year so they can travel for free between home and school with ease.

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones said today that parents and students will be able to apply for a School Opal card and get information about the card from next week.

“More than 4 million Opal cards are already in use across NSW and now we’re expanding Opal to give local school students the same kind of convenience from the start of the 2016 school year,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.
