HISTORIC DEAL PUTS SURF CLUBS ON SOLID GROUND

An historic agreement between the NSW Government and Surf Life Saving NSW will cut red tape for surf clubs so they can focus on keeping the state’s beaches safe.

Member of the Legislative Council the Hon Natasha Maclaren-Jones said today that for the first time Surf Life Saving NSW will not have to go through a lengthy process to renew long-term leases, saving councils and surf clubs time and money that can be better spent on making our beaches safer for swimmers.

CELEBRATE AUSTRALIA DAY 2016 – EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE

Member of the Legislative Council The Hon Natasha Maclaren-Jones encouraged NSW residents to come together and celebrate Australia’s rich and diverse culture this Australia Day, by joining in local community celebrations.

The Australia Day Council of NSW has launched a another big program to mark Australia Day 2016 which includes events that celebrate the many cultures that make up Australia and pay tribute to Australia’s traditional landowners and our newest citizens.

FLOODPLAIN GRANT APPLICATIONS OPEN

Member of the Legislative Council the Hon Natasha Maclaren-Jones is encouraging local councils to apply for a NSW Government Floodplain Management grant to help manage local flood risks.

Mrs Maclaren-Jones said this grant program helped reduce flood risks to communities, which can ultimately save councils millions of dollars.

“We have all witnessed the devastating impact floods can have on communities,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.

OPAL CARD – GETTING READY FOR BACK TO SCHOOL

Member of the Legislative Council The Hon Natasha Maclaren-Jones has reminded parents they may need to apply for a School Opal card if their child’s circumstances have changed for the 2016 school year.

The School Opal card replaces the old paper School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) travel pass, and while most students will receive their new Opal card automatically, there are some parents who will need to apply.
