LOCAL SPORT GRANT PROGRAM OPENS

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones today encouraged local sporting clubs to apply for the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant Program to get more locals involved in sport and recreation activities.

Applications open today for the program, which aims to increase regular and on-going participation in sport and active recreation.

“The Local Sport Grant Program provides funding for sports clubs across NSW,” said Mrs Maclaren-Jones.

WHITE RIBBON DAY

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones marked White Ribbon Day, 25 November 2015, by calling on the community to stand up, speak out and act to prevent men's violence against women.

Mrs Maclaren-Jones said White Ribbon is the world’s largest male-led movement empowering men to speak out against domestic and family violence.

“We have all heard the shocking statistic that on average, one woman is killed every week as a result of intimate partner violence,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.

NEW TOOLKIT FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PREVENTION

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones said teachers and students will be given the means to recognise and act on domestic violence with a new ‘toolkit’ for the mandatory Year 7 to 10 Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) syllabus from Term 1 in 2016.

Mrs Maclaren-Jones said domestic violence is a whole of community issue and it is critical that the NSW community work together to prevent it.

FUNDING BOOST FOR NSW PRESCHOOLS

Member of the Legislative Council Natasha Maclaren-Jones today announced all preschools in NSW will receive a 2.5 per cent increase in funding in 2016 and may be eligible for bonus payments of up to 5 per cent.

Mrs Maclaren-Jones said the extra support for community preschools is part of a $45.5 million package from the NSW Government to increase the number of children attending preschool in the year before school.

“We know the difference that quality early childhood education makes to our kids’ start at school,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.
