There’s half a million reasons to celebrate our youth, with a huge investment from the NSW Government to run Youth Week events next year in all local councils.

Minister for Families and Communities and Minister for Disability Services Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the NSW Government is investing almost $500,000 toward Youth Week 2023 events across the state.

“Every year hundreds of exciting events occur throughout NSW, involving tens of thousands of young people,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.

NSW supports volunteers with Unsung Heroes grants for local government

The NSW Government has today opened a new grant program for local governments that will recognise and encourage volunteering.

The $500,000 Unsung Heroes – Innovation in Volunteering Grants for Local Government have now opened for applications. Councils can apply for funding for initiatives between $50,000 and $100,000.

Minister for Families and Communities Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the grants program will not just recognise and support the special role of volunteers but also encourage more people to participate.

Uni scholarships help regional youth

More young people in out-of-home-care (OOHC) will have an opportunity to pursue their university dreams, with the NSW Government funding 10 scholarships across Charles Sturt University’s six regional campuses.

Deputy Premier, Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said the scholarships will provide a life-changing opportunity for young people in regional NSW who want to pursue further studies after school.

More affordable homes on horizon for the Central West

More social and affordable housing is on the way for the Central West with the foundations laid for new dwellings in Orange as part of the NSW Government’s $1.1 billion Social and Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF).

Minister for Families and Communities Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the new homes will provide a welcome housing and economic boost for the region.

“This development will make a huge difference to the lives of many in the community who need a safe and stable place to call home,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.
